The Los Angeles Rams have announced the signing of veteran placekicker Kai Forbath.

This move comes at no shock after the recent early struggles of rookie placekicker Samuel Sloman. In correspondence to this move, the Rams have placed outside linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo on injured reserve. This signing seems more like one to try and light a fire under Sloman more than replace him. It doesn’t mean Forbath won’t be the starting kicker on Monday night but it’s likely a move to generate more competition and motivation for the rookie.

Some facts on Forbath? He’s been in on a tryout basis for the Rams before, he was signed directly off of the Chicago Bears practice squad who the Rams play this week and he competed and lost the kicking competition to former Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein during the beginning of the offseason in Dallas.

Forbath is 33 years old, he’s kicked in 81 games and he’s a career 86.8% field goal kicker with a career longest kick of 57 yards. Last season he went 11 of 11 between Dallas and New England with a longest of 50 yards and missed one of the 12 extra-point attempts he had.
