President-elect Joe Biden is about to introduce the nation to his national security team, made up of veterans of the Barack Obama administration, signaling the rejection of the current administration’s “America First” policies and the return of the United States to the global scene.Members of the team include former Secretary of State John Kerry, who will lead the fight against climate change. Designates will attend an in-person event with Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in Wilmington, Delaware.Outside of the realms of national security and foreign policy, Biden is expected to appoint Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary, the first woman in that position. She was also the first female president of the Federal Reserve, appointed by Obama, a position she held from 2014 to 2018.Biden’s emerging cabinet signals a return to a more traditional form of governance, made up of veteran officials with long experience and strong relationships in Washington and world capitals. And with the appointment of several women and people of color, the first to such positions, Biden delivers on his promise to lead a team that reflects the diversity of the country.The incoming president will appoint adviser Antony Blinken as secretary of state: lawyer Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of National Security; Linda Thomas-Greenfield Ambassador to the UN: u Jake Sullivan as National Security Advisor. She will nominate Avril Haines, former deputy director of the CIA, as director of national intelligence, the first woman in that position.
