God Is Great Turtles Are Good And People Are Crazy Funny Turtle T-Shirt . The flip side of body pride is body shame, according to Leboeuf. Whereas the former is an entirely private matter, grounded in fleeting moments like the flutter at a lover’s touch, body shame is the product of social demand and taboo. It’s not a new phenomenon: Women’s bodies have always been considered a public good, open to critique, and body shame pertains whenever a woman’s body is nitpicked—consider Selena Gomez, jeered for gaining weight, or Adele, disparaged for losing it—and rebounds onto the nitpickers. Thumbs up or down, every time I assess how a woman’s body looks I’m subliminally asking myself how I look—how I rate when others look at me. The effects are pernicious. “For a long time, I experienced my body as a hindrance—like, I thought of my body and my mind as two separate entities, and my mind was the important thing,” says Ariel Nicholson. “I didn’t want to be seen. I would have disappeared, if I could.”

Kang now competes in Muay Thai God Is Great Turtles Are Good And People Are Crazy Funny Turtle T-Shirt . But she’s learned more than how to kick and punch and elbow. “It was a revelation, being at that gym. It didn’t matter how I looked, so I stopped thinking about it,” she recalls. “For the first time in my life, I was able to listen to my body. To trust it. And to realize how strong I am.” Body positivity is a trendy phrase these days, but possibly not a useful one. It’s come to mean, more or less, that women should feel gorgeous no matter their shape—which is both true and impossible in a culture that persists in sending women the message that they win by being thin. What other lesson could 13-year-old Mia Kang take? Her Muay Thai–enabled transformation points in another direction, away from body positivity’s accent on appearance and toward what philosopher Céline Leboeuf calls body pride. “That’s about taking pleasure in the body—how it feels, what it can do,” explains Leboeuf, a professor at Florida International University and author of several substantial articles on this topic. “The sense of embodiment is what you lose when you’re constantly considering yourself as an object and judging your body on aesthetic terms.”“Oh God, I identify so much,” says Mia Kang when I relay this anecdote to her on the L.A. set for the shoot accompanying this story. “I used to pray before bed that I’d wake up thin, because then I could finally be happy.” Bullied for being fat as a kid in Hong Kong, Kang developed anorexia at age 13. She was rewarded for starving herself: “The boys who used to bully me began asking me out, and once I got really thin, I got scouted.” Kang embarked on her modeling career with a vicious eating disorder that only worsened as her body developed its adult curves. Pressured to maintain her adolescent physique, she took laxatives and chain-smoked to curb her appetite. At age 27, she hit a wall and flew to Thailand for what she figured would be a few days’ respite. Happening upon a Muay Thai gym on the side of the road, she decided to check it out. “I went back the next day, and the day after that…long story short, I stayed six months.”

My daughter’s boyfriend is a Wolverine’s fan, I don’t get why he doesn’t go for the Celtics, but we like him anyways. He loves the fit and feel of this shirt and it washes up nicely. That is what he said, I don’t do his laundry, because he isn’t my son-in-law yet!

Good
Size seems the same as the old one I bought a few years ago, fits the same, though the tag is different. Fabric seems a little thinner, but not by much- I might not have noticed if I wasn’t looking for it. Black one says 100% cotton on the tag.

Purchased this t-shirt in a men’s small for my 11-year old son who has a solid build (not obese). It fits him perfectly. He loves it. I love it. My husband plans to buy himself one of these shirts. The material is top quality. My son says it’s “the best feeling t-shirt” he’s ever worn. It’s a very nice soft cotton. Highly recommend you purchase one.
