LeBron James signed an extension of the relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers and will remain as a free agent until the end of the 2022-23 season. But behind this agreement is a dream that the NBA star seeks to fulfill: To play with his son Bronny before retirement. The ‘King’ is hopeful that James Jr can jump to the best basketball in the world as soon as possible. However, the desire remains on hold because the young man is barely 16 years old and the ‘one and done’ rule establishes a minimum age of 19 to be selected or at least have a year of university.Although in the best of scenarios there is the possibility that the rule will be withdrawn. In recent years the possibility has been explored, but Commissioner Adam Silver has ruled out the possibility of eliminating it in the short term, so Bronny would put all his hopes up to three years from now if there is no change sooner. Also some owners and general managers have pushed to withdraw the ‘one and done’.On the other hand, some theories suggest that after finishing his contract with the Lakers, James’ destiny would be in Oklahoma City, a quintet that has a good number of picks. Although in any other way, the veteran could take advantage of his status as a free agent to go to the franchise that recruits Bronny. It’s no surprise LeBron is looking to retire alongside his son, to whom he could hand over the baton of being the next big star in the league. James a couple of years ago commented that sharing the floor with Bronny would be the “greatest achievement of his NBA career.” Only time will tell if Akron’s man manages to stand the test of years and the league is willing to change the rule so that his son arrives before 19.
