When you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way, from your first teaser trailer to your December release day!

The first glimpse of scenes from Steven Spielberg’s new adaptation of the musical “West Side Story” dropped during the 2021 Oscars Sunday night. It suggested a faithful remake of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s 1957 musical.

A nice touch was having the original screen Anita — actress Rita Moreno, now 89 — sing the iconic song “Somewhere” over the action.

We see Ansel Elgort’s Tony spot Rachel Zegler’s Maria during the “Dance at the Gym”; the Sharks clash with the Jets in alleyways and parking lots; and spirited teens dance through the streets of the Manhattan neighborhood where Lincoln Center now stands.

The Broadway show famously lost the Best Musical Tony Award to “The Music Man,” but the Oscars loved Robert Wise’s film adaptation, awarding it Best Picture in 1962.

A less-traditional version of the musical, directed by Ivo van Hove, opened on Broadway last year at the Broadway Theatre.

Spielberg’s “West Side Story” will hit theaters December 10.
