The music industry expected Ariana Grande’s new music to arrive with a bang, and she didn’t disappoint. Billboard reports that her new single, “positions,” debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart this week. It’s her fifth No. 1 debut, marking an all-time record for any artist. Her only competition was herself; Grande previously held the record of four No. 1 debuts, which she achieved back in May thanks to her Lady Gaga team-up, “Rain On Me.”

All five of Grande’s No. 1 debuts have come since 2018, beginning with “thank u, next” and continuing with “7 rings,” “Stuck with U,” and “Rain On Me.” She has never had a No. 1 hit that didn’t start at the top of the chart.

“positions” earned 35.3 million on-demand streams in its debut week, as well as 31,000 in digital sales. Its success makes her the first artist to have three songs at No. 1 in a single calendar year since Drake in 2018 with “God’s Plan,” “Nice For What,” and “In My Feelings.”

Grande’s album, also titled positions, is set to impact the Billboard 200 chart next week, where it will likely debut at No. 1.
