Harry Kane makes decision on future amid rumours of joining Barca
Barcelona are said to know that Harry Kane will only make a decision on whether to join the Catalans after the end of the current season.
Barca wait for Harry Kane
Hansi Flick’s side returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Elche, after a 2-1 defeat in the ‘Clásico’ against Real Madrid at the end of October. However, Barcelona are still five points behind their arch-rivals in La Liga.
If Hansi Flick fails to help Barca win La Liga this season, the board are said to be keen to continue their strong support in the summer transfer market. The club’s top priority is to strengthen their attack, with Robert Lewandowski, 37, showing no signs of getting a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of the season.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona have targeted Harry Kane, the 32-year-old striker of Bayern Munich. The English star is said to have a release clause of 65 million euros (equivalent to 57 million pounds). However, Kane seems to want to wait until the end of the 2025-2026 season to make a final decision on his future.
Notably, this is not the first time Barca have been interested in a “veteran” from Bayern. In the summer of 2022, they recruited Robert Lewandowski when he was 33 years old. Since then, the Polish striker has scored 105 goals for the Camp Nou team, confirming that he is a successful contract despite initial skepticism.
For Kane, physical strength and speed have never been the deciding factors in his playing style. The English striker is renowned for his positioning and finishing, so even at 32, he could still be a reliable option in the short term. However, signing a player in the latter stages of his career always carries risks in terms of form and sustainability.
Barcelona are still struggling with long-term financial difficulties. While they could afford to sign Kane next summer, it is clearly not a long-term investment.
Real Madrid are also said to be eyeing Kane, especially if Vinícius Junior leaves the Bernabéu in the summer. Under coach Xabi Alonso, Real’s project has been very attractive with several big signings in the past two years, such as Kylian Mbappé and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid also have a superior record in Europe, with 15 Champions League titles – nine more than their rivals, including six in the last 12 seasons.
If they want to convince Kane to choose Camp Nou over the Bernabéu, Barcelona will need to prove that they are still ambitious and competitive in both La Liga and the Champions League. However, whether they can compete with Real in terms of both finances and influence remains an open question.
