ATLANTA HAWKS STAR TRAE YOUNG REACTS TO PLAYING IN FRONT OF JAY-Z & NELLY IN PLAY-IN WIN

The Atlanta Hawks faced off against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday (April 13) in their play-in game at the State Farm Arena, with the Hawks pulling together a 132-103 win on the night. The big occasion brought a number of high-profile celebrities into the building, with the likes of JAY-Z and Nelly sitting courtside.

Speaking to the press after the game, Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young reacted to playing in front of the two rappers.

“It was crazy,” he said. “I mean, everybody that was in the building. There’s always a lot of people that show up and things like that, but Hov in the building, that was pretty cool. It’s fun. Putting on a show, and then coming out with the win is the most important thing, though.”

Young ended the night with 24 points, 10 assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block.

JAY-Z’s visit to Atlanta follows his appearance at the Barclays Center in New York City on Tuesday (April 12), where the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Clevelands Cavaliers 115-108 in the other Eastern Conference play-in game.

Hov and Nelly weren’t the only Hip Hop figures inside the State Farm Arena on Wednesday, with Swizz Beatz and Migos’ own Quavo also sat watching on.

In September 2021, Trae Young sparked a Twitter debate following the release of Drake’s Certified Lover Boy album after he tweeted, “Yo when we gonna say Drake has passed Hov ?”

After feeling the wrath of JAY-Z fans, Young later tweeted, “Everybody, Hov #1 to me.” He also apologized by posting a viral video of a convicted felon singing an Adele-inspired song in court.

“Hello there, your honor,” the man sings in the clip. “I wanna say I’m sorry for the things I’ve done, and I’ll try and be stronger in this life I’ve chose.”
